According to the regulations of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People's Republic of China, starting from July 1, 2017, the emission limit of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas of heating furnaces shall be less than 100 mg/m3. Nitrogen oxides in flue gas are one of the difficult-to-treat air pollutants. With the country’s increasingly stringent environmental protection requirements, it is urgent to effectively reduce nitrogen oxide emissions.

Beginning in 2014, Yangzi Petrochemical launched the "Clear Water and Blue Sky" environmental protection special action for the denitration transformation of walking heating furnaces. In 2014, the company first renovated 12 walking heating furnaces in the aromatics plant; during the overhaul of the device in October 2015, Yangzi Petrochemical renovated 3 walking heating furnaces in the 2# atmospheric and vacuum unit of the refinery. During the renovation, Yangzi Petrochemical adopted a new type of low-nitrogen burner to replace the burner of the heating furnace with excessive nitrogen oxide concentration.

Compared with the previous, the new burner structure adopts multiple burners, advanced combustion technology, through the application of fuel gas staged combustion, flue gas recirculation combustion, etc., through its special technical design to reduce the peak flame temperature of the burner. Nitrogen combustion effectively reduces the emission of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas and reduces air pollution sources. Observed from the flame shape and compared with the burner before modification, the flame convergence is better, the flame is bluer, and the flame stability is better.

The reformed walking heating furnace has realized energy saving and emission reduction, and the nitrogen oxide emissions are far below the national emission standards. The device saves 150,000 yuan in environmental protection costs each year.
